Jo-Wilfried Tsonga can still lead French tennis

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be 34 years old on April 17th, but his desire to return to play competitively is worthy of someone years younger. Indeed, perhaps much more. Because despite the many goals achieved and the tournaments won (16 in career, in 28 finals played), the Frenchman still has much to give to tennis.

Like many of his peers, he can set an example of dedication, commitment, determination, charisma and willpower to many young players.

Tsonga reached the semi-finals of the Brisbane International, beating two young players: Thanasi Kokkinakis and Alex De Minaur, and ending the ambitions of the Japanese Taro Daniel. He was eliminated by Daniil Medvedev, but this remained a very good tournament. After the physical torments and the surgery of 2018, this can be his season of revival at the highest levels.

But the most interesting thing will be to see the evolution of his year, starting from Melbourne. The Frenchman reached the second round of the Australian Open, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in three sets. Still, he played a good match and he gave an important signal for the rest of the season; his state of physical form can only improve from Melbourne onwards.

From the technical point of view, it will be very interesting to see if he has made changes to his tennis, to adapt it to the advancing age and to adapt it against all his opponents. In the meantime, all the fans will be happy to see one of the men's tennis stars again on the court. He is definitely the only one among all the French players to watch out for.
