Novak Djokovic comments on events prioritizing TVs rather than players

In an interview to Serbian media, as quoted by Sport Klub, Novak Djokovic commented on tournaments prioritizing TV requests rather than putting the players' opinions on the first place.

Djokovic referred to organizers turning lights on at 5:00 PM during his four-set win over Denis Shapovalov on Saturday. "As someone who is on the Council, I am well aware of the importance of TV rights, TV contributes to popularisation of our sport and by that creates better conditions for us", said Djokovic. "On the other hand, it seems like TV is being prioritized a bit too much.. It turns out that we have to accept and obey whatever they say and that's it. I am curious to see what happens next as I am going to talk to the organizers. I was not the only one that was bothered by the lights, Denis was too, although I was more vocal about it. I remember like it was yesterday – one year in Cincinnati I played semis with Nadal at 9PM and then the next day I had to play finals versus Federer at 11AM because that was the only time the TV that had the rights could fit tennis match in its schedule. I understand, you guys are journalists – I don't know that world the way you do of course, but I respect it because we complement each other. But some thing need to be regulated and players have to be consulted when it comes to those kind of decision. I don't know why the players are cut from that process of making decisions. Everything else I am fine with, of course, both you guys and us are working to make this sport better."
