Petra Kvitova to skip Fed Cup tie against Romania

Petra Kvitova has withdrawn from the Fed Cup tie between the Czech Republic and Romania that will take place on Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10. Kvitova would have faced Simona Halep in the fascinating meeting, but she needs some time off after losing a three-set Australian Open final against Naomi Osaka.

The Czech will now fly to St. Petersburg to play the Ladies Trophy tournament, as confirmed by her agent Miroslav Cersonek: "She defends her titles in St Petersburg the week before that and in Doha the week later. Neither I nor captain Petr Pala expects her to take part. She has always played... when she could. She is not one of those looking for excuses.

In a press conference after the final Kvitova said: "In the third set, it's kind of new match starting. We hold the serves at the beginning of the third set. I think that game, when she holds the serve, that calm down a bit. From that time, I think she played better again than the end of the second set when she missed a lot. I think that for her, she came back and played a better game. I don't know. She left. She went on the toilet. I was before there as well. There is nothing really special (smiling). Yeah, maybe she calms down a bit. Of course, it's kind of tough to play someone who you didn't play before. But I think it's about the few games to kind of realize what she's playing. I think that's how was it today."
