Rafael Nadal will win the Australian Open, says Alex Corretja

The former world No. 2 Alex Corretja believes that Rafael Nadal will win the Australian Open men's singles title. Speaking on Eurosport, Corretja analyzed the upcoming semifinals match between Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas. 'He (Tsitsipas) does have the weapons. Even if I think Rafa is my pick for the tournament because he has been playing great tennis, very good - Tsitsipas has got serve, big forehand and backhand. He creates good tennis. It will depend more on Rafa. Rafa is gonna be fired up. He is in the semis and he knows he can do it. Talking to Rafa at this stage, I can see that he is in a way honest But very calm, he doesn't look to waste any energy. Because he knows that some problems can come up sometimes. He is in the semis and he is like "Okay, I am gonna face a new star". He will look to play an unbelievable tennis again because he is ready to win.'

Corretja also analyzed Naomi Osaka's win over Elina Svitolina: 'She was so aggressive, standing one meter in front of the baseline, she hit incredible forehands, so easy with the backhand. Svitolina could not do much, and now I am understanding why she will be one of the best in the next future.'

Corretja believes that Lucas Pouille will not have to be underestimated during his semifinals match against Novak Djokovic on Friday at the Australian Open. The Swede was impressed by the Frenchman's win over Milos Raonic on Wednesday. 'He was looking very well. He was hitting the ball perfectly, maybe at the beginning it was very difficult for him to get some rhythm because Milos is killing you but the very first moment he got the groove back I saw he was really playing well', said Corretja. 'What I really like about him is that he is very focused and he is so confident that he can win anybody right now. He is calmer and he believes he can do it.'
