Roger Federer adds new tournament to February 2019 schedule!

Roger Federer comes back to play the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship that will take place from 25th of February to 2nd of March 2019. Last year, after that Federer rejected a wild card having earned the No. 1 ranking spot earlier in the month in Rotterdam, the organizers had said they were confident to bring the Basel native back in the tournament for 2019, and they made it. Federer lives in Dubai for several months a year, including in December when he has the off-season training.

In Dubai Federer has made 13 appearances, winning seven titles (2015, 2014, 2012, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003). He also reached two finals, losing to Novak Djokovic in 2011 and Rafael Nadal in 2006. In 2017, which is the year of his latest appearance, the Swiss lost to Evgeny Donskoy wasting match points. He did not have the best preparation going into the tournament, having suffered a leg injury after winning an historical Australian Open title. Federer joins Kei Nishikori in the field. The news was given by the 37-year-old himself, as he updated his tournaments schedule on official website.

Federer will start his campaign at the 2019 Australian Open on Monday or Tuesday. After this Grand Slam tournament, he will have plenty of time to recover ahead of Dubai, almost one month. He will have a busy March playing Indian Wells and Miami, and then possibly the clay-court events. Before the French Open, if he plays, Roger will pick at least one or two events.
