Second serve was the biggest weakness for Halep against Williams - Wilander
Speaking on Eurosport, the seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander commented on Serena Williams's win over Simona Halep. The Swede believes that one thing made a difference in the match: 'The second serve of Simona Halep is the weakest part of her game and some of reasons are obvious because she is not very tall, she needs to develope a different second serve, and Serena is so committed, she has a simple game plan and when she is all 3-1, she started to go after the second serve return and the match is over.'
Alex Corretja analyzed the Romanian's slow start: 'Sometimes it happens that when you play someone who hits so hard, you need time to adjust your game especially when Serena was serving well, hitting well to the forehand, backhand. Simona got a lot of balls back, moved well around. Serena showed why she wants to win this tournament.'
Serena will face Karolina Pliskova next. 'Pliskova played an amazing tennis, she hits the ball so clean, easy and effortless. Muguruza could not do anything. When Pliskova dictates the rallies, she is very difficult to beat,' concluded Corretja.
Wilander believes that on-court coaching should not be allowed on the tennis tour. A lot of talks have been around it after the controversial US Open final featuring Serena Williams, but Wilander said: '(Coaching) happens anyway and I'd be fine with the way it's happening now. You should police it a little bit better, all the time. I don't think you are gonna take away the greatness of Roger Federer by having coach trying to help him because we like seeing Serena Williams and Roger Federer solving problems by their own. And I think that's what tennis is about.'
