Tennis Australia defends Dunlop balls against Bernard Tomic accusations
Tennis Australia has come to the defense of the new match balls for the Australian Open as they insist that Dunlop is a great brand.
Australian tennis player Tomic didn't back down while describing how he feels about the balls used which will be used at the Australian Open this year.
The Australian Open made a switch from Wilson to Dunlop.
Tomic, a former world No. 17, played with the Dunlop ball for the first time at the Priceline Pharmacy Kooyong Classic on Tuesday.
Despite his displeasure with the balls, the Australian managed to come from a set down and beat American Jack Sock.
"I don’t know what the Australian Open has done, but it is terrible," Tomic said post-match.
"I don’t know too much [about the balls], but I don't feel like it is that good of a ball.
"I think they’re pretty cheap from what I've heard."
It didn't take long for Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley to react to the accusations made by Tomic.
"T"hese are great balls. They are made by one of the more reputable companies globally," Tiley said, per The Sydney Morning Herald.
"Dunlop is one of the biggest, most widely distributed balls in the world.
"The players gave us feedback that they would like to have a consistent ball ... and most of the events leading in use Dunlop and more are going to be using Dunlop."
