'Tsitsipas was aware that Roger Federer wasn't at his best' - Mats Wilander
Speaking on Eurosport the seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander commented on Stefanos Tsitsipas's quarter-final win over Roberto Bautista Agut at the Australian Open on Tuesday.
Wilander said: 'It was a very important victory for sure and a tough match to play because Bautista Agut is obviously a solid player, he played great here. Tsitsipas was so aware of the moment, he was aware that Federer was not at his best that night, he was aware that Bautista Agut was feeling it physically a little bit, especially in the fourth set. At the same time, I have to say that in five years Tsitsipas might have won six, seven Majors and this is a match he cannot lose. He is not allowed to lose. A lot of players would. When you do not lose to Bautista Agut, that tells me that you are watching somebody who is going to be a champion. We are gonna see a lot more from him.'
Tsitsipas commented on the warning he got during the match against the Spaniard: 'It wasn't a coaching violation actually. All my father/coach said, he told me to drink more, and that was it. That counted as a coaching violation. I didn't know that.'
Asked if he knows what was the reaction in Greece about his success, the world No. 15 concluded: 'No clue. Only thing I've seen is some posts, some magazine photos. I really want to know what it is back there, how it is back there.'
