As she rises through the ranks, Dayana Yastremska leads the millennials
Dayana Yastremska can be considered the guide of the millennials, the WTA players born from the 2000s onwards. In her, Amanda Anisimova and, perhaps, Olga Danilovic and Anastasija Potapova, the WTA Tour seems to have found the new protagonists of the next women's tennis era.
Yastremska is improving step-by-step; it is no coincidence that since 2018, her improvements have been visible almost at every tournament, especially in the indoor season last year.
This year, she started on the right note by reaching the quarter-final in Hobart, third round at the Australian Open (lost to Serena Williams) and then winning her second WTA title in Hua Hin, Thailand on Sunday, 3rd February. Her first WTA title came in October 2018, when she won the Hong Kong Open title, against the favorite Wang Qiang. Her victory was clear (6-2, 6-1), while in Luxembourg, a few weeks later, she managed to eliminate Garbine Muguruza.
Yastremska has modern and aggressive tennis. She asks a lot from her service and she is not afraid to look to hit the lines of the court with her forehand and her backhand.
If all these skills were to grow exponentially along with the lucidity of choices and mental strength, then women's tennis has already found a new star for the next years. It is no coincidence that the 21-year-old Naomi Osaka has already won two slams and is the world no.1.
