Coach Emmanuel Planque: Lucas Pouille has talent to win Grand Slams

Coach Emmanuel Planque says he and French tennis star Lucas Pouille still have a great relationships despite putting an end to their long-time collaboration at the end of the last season.

Pouille, who had a disappointing 2018 campaign, made a big decision to split with coach Planque after six years of collaboration with the well-known French coach.

World No. 17 Pouille now works with French former world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo, while Planque works with French rising star Corentin Moutet.

Under the guidance of Planque, Pouille won five ATP titles and achieved his career-high ranking of No. 10 in the world.

Pouille and Mauresmo kicked off their partnership in style as the 24-year-old reached his maiden Grand Slam semi-final at this past Australian Open, before losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Pouille's former coach Planque believes that the Frenchman could make it a step further at a Grand Slam tournament in the future.

"But we are still very close. He is like my son and I am like his second father. I was of course very happy to see him in the Australian Open semifinals. Unfortunately he lost to Novak but then again he was unbeatable this year. Lucas has the talent to win Grand Slams and he works hard. I can't predict exactly when but I know he eventually will," Planque said, as revealed on The Times of India.
