Competing with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic is a privilege - Dominic Thiem
In an interview to the Rio Open website, Dominic Thiem praised the Big Three: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Austrian has defeated all of them at least once and he spoke highly of his rivals: "These athletes are among the best guys that have ever been on a tennis court and in the world of tennis lately. It's difficult, obviously, to play against them, but I consider a privilege competing at the same time as them."
Thiem looks forward to going to Rio de Janeiro, but he is aware that there will be less time to do other things: "When I come to a city, there is almost no time to do what it is not about the tournament, just going to dinner. I prepare for matches and I try to go sleeping early. As for the heat, I like it! However, it's something that requires a better physical shape than normal conditions."
Thiem also explained why he has a hectic schedule: "I like playing a lot, it helps me to keep on the way. There is nothing you can complain about when you can have the life you have always dreamed of. Because my parents were coaches, I grew up on a tennis court, literally. I fell in love with the game when I was two or three years old and I am still passionate."
Thiem is tied on 2-2 in the head-to-head with Federer. The Austrian prevailed at 2016 Rome and Stuttgart, while the Swiss won at 2016 Brisbane and 2018 ATP Finals. Last week, Thiem lost in the semi-final of the Argentina Open to Diego Schwartzman last week.
