'Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique do not decide about Davis Cup' - Gaudio
In a conference call in Buenos Aires, the new Argentina's Davis Cup team captain Gaston Gaudio commented on this year's team competition that will be played in November featuring a new format. "We will be in the tournaments that look like important to us: French Open and US Open, we should be in these two", said Gaudio. "Then we will be in the swing prior to the Davis Cup. At that stage we will be closer to the guys. We just want to follow them during the year and support them. As the date gets closer, we will see how they feel to speak and see if they want to be in the team."
Juan Martin del Potro said that his Davis Cup career is ended. Gaudio still has some hopes: "It's very early to speak with del Potro, but I am available for any doubt he has about the rulebook."
Gaudio also commented on the Davis Cup main investors: "(Gerard) Pique is the Kosmos president, he doesn't decide about tennis. Albert Costa and Galo Blanco manage it. Kosmos group bought a football team in Andorra where (Lionel) Messi is a member, but I do not think he takes decisions in tennis."
He finally concluded speaking about the differences between being a player and a captain: "You feel a little bit more impotent when you are on the chair. Being outside and having to try explain to who is on court is more complicated."
