Dominic Thiem: Winning a Grand Slam is still my dream
In an interview with Clarin, Dominic Thiem revealed what his goals were for the future. Last year, the Austrian reached his maiden Major final at the French Open losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. The Austrian also lost to Nadal in the 2018 US Open quarter-finals in five sets. "Winning a Grand Slam is still my dream. It's tough, but I think it's possible," said Thiem.
He also spoke about a tennis player's tough life. "Many times being a tennis player is tiring, but we cannot complain about it. We have a great lifestyle, we know a lot of places around the world... And when you win a big match, or a tournament, feelings are so unbelievable that they are impossible to describe and very difficult to have in another field."
A very few top players compete in the clay-court South American swing but Thiem is a regular competitor there: "I played here for the first time three years ago and I felt very comfortable with it. I won the tournament here, I performed well in Rio and I also won in Acapulco, so I have great memories from then. It was unbelievable, and when you enjoy yourself coming back is easy. Also, in Europe, the weather is not that nice.
"I do not go to a tournament if I do not like the city. I spend at least seven days there and in other tournaments even more, in the city of the tournament I go. Then if you do not like it... But Buenos Aires and Rio are very nice cities, with a positive environment, so coming back is not complicated at all."
