Jaume Munar: 'Being close to Rafael Nadal gives me confidence'

Jaume Munar feels proud of being a Rafael Nadal's friend. Munar regularly trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy and the two players often speak each other. "It's very important for me to be close to Rafa. It gives me confidence, he can explain me a lot of things and he has a very professional point of view about tennis. With him I have the opportunity to be close to a big", said Munar in an interview to Clarin during the Cordoba Open.

Munar is 21 years old and he cracked the top 100 rankings a few months ago. Despite being some steps behind than other Next Generation players, Munar feels confident for the future: "The way is different for everyone. You have kids who have an amazing talent like (Alexander) Zverev, (Denis) Shapovalov, (Andrey) Rublev, (Stefanos) Tsitsipas. And they are above me and I have no problems in saying it. But there are people who came at the very top starting as very young and people who came at the very top starting later. I have no pressure. I had many doubts, but doubts are good. I read it in an interview to Rafa: having doubts is important. It makes you work harder."

Munar dreams to play the Davis Cup one day for Spain. Meanwhile, Gerard Pique, who features among one of the main investors for the new format, said: "We are extremely proud to see how, step by step, the Davis Cup Madrid Finals take shape and become, without a doubt, one of the great sporting events of the year. The draw we witnessed today has provided an exciting setting for the competition. The diversity and contrasting styles of the teams and the huge enthusiasm with which they will all arrive in Madrid is undoubtedly the best guarantee of the great performance that awaits us. Madrid will be the world capital of tennis and sport for a week, bringing together fans from 18 countries, offering them a unique experience that they will surely not forget".
