Laver Cup tickets to go on sale this week with Federer-Nadal the big draw

One of the most highly anticipated tennis events this year will be the Laver Cup heading to Roger Federer’s home country, September 20-22, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland. Multi-sessions tickets to the thrilling exhibition go on sale Friday morning, February 8, to the general public. However, tennis fans can take part in the pre-sale by registering at the Laver Cup website by midnight Monday February 4 CET. Full hospitality package have been on sale since last December. A limited number of single session tickets will be made available at a later date.

A big draw for the team event is the prospect of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal playing on the same team. As the two legends age in the sport they’ve helped make enormously popular, fans will likely flock at the chance at another blockbuster possible doubles match.

“With Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, two of the greatest players of all time, already committed to representing Team Europe, we know it’s going to be a very special event and we look forward to bringing the Laver Cup to Geneva,” said Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks.

Another attraction is the opportunity to see the world’s most famous players practice in the fan village practice court. Set up at the Chicago’s United Center parking lot, the players’ practice sessions was a major highlight of the Chicago tournament last year.

The three-day tournament pits the six top players from Europe—headed up by Captain Bjorn Borg—and Team World—captained by John McEnroe. The Laver Cup is named in honor of legend Rod Laver—the only player to have completed the Calendar Year Slam (twice). The exhibition is always a sold-out affair, and this year will take place at the 17,000-seat arena Palexpo, in Geneva, including a special court being constructed for the event.

“The Palexpo is the ideal facility to host the Laver Cup,” said Zacks, when the venue was announced.

“It has been the home for major sold-out tennis events and has the scale and facilities to allow the Laver Cup team to create something spectacular. We plan to expand on the Laver Cup live event concept and create the stadium, practice court, fan village and more under one roof.”

Team Europe is the two-year undefeated champion, and Captain Bjorn Borg has vowed to keep the Cup in Europe. Conceived originally as an independent venture, both Tennis Australia and the USTA have invested in the successful endeavor.

“John McEnroe has made it very clear how motivated Team World is to win and we’ll need to compete hard to stay undefeated. I know from lots of first-hand experience how tough it is to compete against Rafa and it’s a huge boost to our team to have him on Team Europe,” said Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg.

Novak Djokovic—in the midst of his incredible comeback to dominant form—thrilled audiences by combining forces with Federer, although with less successful results than the Federer-Nadal doubles win the first year.

“Bringing together two of the greatest players, and rivals, the sport has ever seen together on one team is very exciting for our sport – and will give us the best possible chance to win the Laver Cup three years in a row,” said Borg last fall.

“When we first played Laver Cup in Prague, with both Roger and Rafa on the team, we knew it would be very special, bringing together two such great champions. But I think we all underestimated how powerful it would be to see them sitting side by side, coaching each other and cheering each other on, along with their teammates from the player bench.”

The event is a brilliant brainchild of Federer and it’s a fascinating platform to watch great rivals become teammates.
