Petra Kvitova: I wasn't scared going for aggressive game-plan in AO final
Petra Kvitova takes what's positive from her three-set Australian Open final loss to Naomi Osaka. The Czech had some weeks to process the result and in a press conference in Dubai, she said: "I think was the mentality that I wasn't really scared going for the aggressive game plan, for the winners, playing kind of free. Sometimes when I'm little bit more scared, I'm missing really badly. In the head, is just going a lot of thoughts afterwards. Probably the mental side was the strongest one there."
Revealing what she did after Melbourne, Kvitova added: "Everything was so quick. I just went home. I got my visa to Russia, then flew the next day to the St. Pete. That's it. I just flew to Monte-Carlo a couple days, being home for a week. That's the preparation for Dubai. I didn't really have time to think too much. I was really in a circle. I really had to do a lot of things. Yeah, I mean, of course, kind of the pain from the whole thing is gone. I'm taking a positive way."
Recalling her 2013 Dubai title, Kvitova concluded: "I do remember that I was here alone, without my coach, without anyone actually. I just played by myself, by my thoughts. That probably is the strongest memory I have from the tournament."
Kvitova, who is the second seed in Dubai, has reached the quarter-final.
