Queen's announces first player for the 2019 edition
The Fever-Tree Championships, that will take place from 17 to 23 June, has announced its first player for this year's tournament. It's the local hero Kyle Edmund, who achieved his best result at the Queen's in 2016 losing to Andy Murray in a three-set match. “The Fever-Tree Championships is one of the best events on the tour, and the grass at The Queen’s Club plays perfectly, so I am really looking forward to it. Queen’s is a special place for me and the tournament has always had a very special place in my heart. They always have such a great player field and I’m super excited to be coming back", said Edmund.
The Tournament Director Stephen Farrow feels confident that Edmund will be able to perform at his best in the upcoming months following a low start to the 2019 season: “We saw what Kyle is capable of with his run to the semifinals of the Australian Open last year, and it’s great to have the British No.1 already confirmed to play in the Fever-Tree Championships. Our spectators love to cheer on one of their own, and Kyle will give them everything he’s got.”
Murray has a lifetime deal with the Queen's but he is unlikely to play as he underwent a new hip surgery. Other top players are expected to be announced in the coming months.
