Rafael Nadal and other four top players commit to 2019 Davis Cup

Five top players have confirmed their appearance in the 2019 Davis Cup finals. Rafael Nadal for Spain, Marin Cilic for Croatia, Diego Schwartzman for Argentina, David Goffin for Belgium and Kei Nishikori for Japan will play.

Croatia's Davis Cup team captain Peter Krajan expects a tough campaign at the 2019 Davis Cup finals. Marin Cilic is set to play the event, but the country, that is a defending champion, was drawn with Russia and Spain.

Krajan said: "I do not know if it could have been worse. Everyone wants to avoid Spain, both because of its power and it's the hoster. If Rafa Nadal plays, the Spanish team will be really strong but also without him it's a team made up of amazing players. The draw did not go well. For the rankings and the players' names, it's the toughest group, without a doubt. It will be an interesting challenge."

Canada will instead face Italy and the United States in the group's stage. Canada's team captain Frank Dancevic said: “It will be difficult because all of the teams participating in the finals are strong. There are no weak opponents. In our group, the US and Italy are both tough teams with top-level players in singles and doubles. We will need to have all of our top guys participating in order to go deep in the competition. We’ve come close in the past, having reached the semi-finals, and the next step is to win it one day. I believe that we have the players and the fire power to do it. We have a good mix of young and experienced players and this is a good combination to go far in the finals."
