'Rafael Nadal did not know what to do against Djokovic' - Former player
In a column for Le Temps, the former world No. 9 singles player Marc Rosset commented on Novak Djokovic defeating Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final. Rosset wrote: "As a tennis fan, I would have liked to see a longer and more fought final on Sunday between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. It did not last long but it's still enough to be impressed by Djokovic's unbelievable level. It was great, and even if he was a favorite, I do not think nobody could expect it. Nadal was lost, with no solution. He did not know what to do, which is rare.'
Rosset also praised the 15-time Major winner's tactics: 'Djokovic sought the win himself, he did not wait for (opponent)'s error, like it may have happened in the past. He hit 34 winners. It's clear that at this level he is much above any other player and basically untouchable. On clay Nadal would have had a little bit more time to prepare his shots and get involved in a more physical battle.'
Rosset also praised Nadal and Djokovic's ability to improve: 'They are full of titles, they are over 30 years old, but they are still improving more than the younger players. Nadal developed a new service motion, a much more efficient one. Djokovic serves even better. His serve, which was not a weapon, becomes super fast and finds unbelievable areas without forcing. These great champions are constantly in research and in discussion. And you can be sure about one thing; losing in straight sets in the final will motivate Rafael Nadal to work even more.'
