Roberto Bautista-Agut set to debut in Lyon
Spanish tennis star Roberto Bautista Agut will play at the Open Parc Ara Auvergne-Rhone-Aipes Lyon this year, the tournament announced.
The ATP 250 clay-court event in Lyon held its inaugural edition in 2017.
The Spaniard is set to debut on the clay courts of Lyon as he has no previous appearances at the tournament.
Bautista Agut, ranked at No. 17 in the world, will use the Lyon event as his last preparation for the French Open.
The Open Parc Ara Auvergne-Rhone-Aipes Lyon takes a place a week before the French Open, May 19-25.
Bautista Agut usually prefers not to play a week before the lone clay-court Grand Slam tournament.
The Lyon event is preparing a notable player field for this year's tournament edition.
Bautista Agut is expected to be joined in Lyon by French tennis star Jo Wilfried Tsonga and world No. 9 John Isner.
Tsonga, 33, won the inaugural edition of Lyon after beating Czech Tomas Berdych in the final.
Unfortunately, the Frenchman was unable to defend his title last year.
It remains to be seen will playing a week before the French Open help Bautista Agut in his bid of achieving his best-ever result at Roland Garros this year.
Bautista Agut, a former world No. 13, made the round-of-16 at Roland Garros in 2016 and 2017.
Nine-time ATP champion Bautista Agut will certainly be one of the favorites to win it all in Lyon this year.
Bautista Agut's lone clay court title came five years ago in Stuttgart, before the German event switched surface to grass.
