Bernard Tomic remains hopeful he could one day win Grand Slam
Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic remains hopeful that one day he could win a Grand Slam title.
The Australian had a promising junior career, winning three Orange Bowl and two Grand Slam titles.
Many expected Tomic to win multiple Grand Slam title and become the world No. 1 one day.
Yet, the 26-year-old's career-best result at the Grand Slam level was the quarter-final achieved at Wimbledon in 2011.
However, world No. 87 Tomic has won four ATP titles and his career-high ranking saw him sitting at No. 17 in the world.
Tomic was in a dark in place throughout the 2017 season and at the beginning of the 2018 season before he won the Chengdu Open title at the end of last season and returned to the top-100.
In an exclusive interview given to Tennis Atlantic, Tomic claimed: "There's a lot of pressure in this sport and you learn how to deal with it. I had a lot of pressure when I was young. I've played really solid and really well so far in my career. I mean I haven't won slams and that, but maybe that's something I can do in the future. But 10 years in this career, maybe 8-10 years still in this career. I still feel super young. I'm 26 and there's guys who are 38, 37, 39 and still playing. It's been a long journey, but got to keep going and do what I do and hopefully one day it'll pay off."
Meanwhile, Tomic made a winning start to his New York Open campaign on Monday as he beat Lukas Lacko to set up a round-of-16 meeting against No. 1 seed John Isner.
