Roger Federer: 'I get emotional when people encourage me to keep playing'

In an interview to NNZ Roger Federer commented on how the people's support motivates him to keep playing tennis despite he is 37 years old and a half. "I usually do not have expectations when I play somewhere", said Federer. "I get surprised of how many people take their time and go in places just to see me and continuing to encourage me to play. I appreciate it a lot. It touches me. People like to see me, and it seems to me that they are happy. I am in a privileged situation to make them happy and maybe also encourage people through my matches. If I look back at my career, one day, it will be one of the best things."

He also reflected on why ten years ago he could have ended his career: "In 2009, when I won the French Open for the first time and broken Pete Sampras's record less after, I thought I had reached the ultimate point. You could not have done more. Now ten years have gone and the popularity keeps growing. It's nice from one side. On the other, you constantly have to adapt. But I think this balance was not bad."
