Toni Nadal jokes: 'Djokovic should stay with family, leave room to Rafa'

In a column for El Pais, the Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni commented on the Australian Open final won by Novak Djokovic over the Mallorcan. Toni gave credit to the 15-time Major winner. 'You cannot saying anything about Novak Djokovic's game in the final', wrote Toni. 'You have to congratulate him for a tennis level that no one may overcome. The beautinesses of the Serb's game, especially on this surface, have small margin of improvements. We saw him attacking and playing at a high speed since the beginning. Rafael's shots were not definitely like in the previous days, but every attempt was followed by an even better shot. In many occasions, a good serve by my nephew was a way for the Serb to hit a winner. I don't know if you can have a tactic against such an inspired guy. Maybe he could have played more towards the centre and try to have longer rallies. And I do not know if it would have been possible and enough. A player can win the other delivering the same kind of game but a little bit better, or applying a different tactic than your opponent's. Anyways, in the beginning of the year Rafael decided to shorten the rallies in his matches and so he had to trust the process. Only playing at his best Rafael could have made this match an epic clash, which I was wishing for.'

In an interview, Toni also joked: 'Djokovic should stay with his family when you have responsibilities as a father you should stay with your kids. You have to give room to other younger guys, like Rafa Nadal. He played too good.'
