Toni Nadal reveals the key reason behind Rafael's success
In a conference call at the Rotterdam Open the Rafael Nadal's uncle, Toni, commented on how being mentally strong can help you to achieve success at the highest level. Toni said: "Everyone knows everything about technology and tactics, I mainly speak about the mental aspect, you can improve your success but then you have to be doing okay mentally."
The 57-year-old also praised Rafael: "I was lucky with Rafael, he was always willing to listen. It was difficult for him, very difficult, I almost never said that he was good, he always had to be better, which was necessary to become ready for the future."
The tennis coach Sven Groeneveld, who worked with Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Monica Seles in the past, said that handling your off-court time is the key: "Tennis is the main thing. But you spend the 80% of your time off court, you have a whole team behind you, from the physioterapist to the hitting partner. Teams are getting bigger, careers get longer, there are more tournaments than ever and so you have to be careful about your time off. You have to develope yourself."
