'Tsitsipas, Khachanov or Medvedev: one of them will become No. 1' - Massey
Stefanos Tsitsipas, Karen Khachanov or Daniil Medvedev. At least one of these three players will become world No. 1 according to David Massey, the Executive Vice ATP President. The three young players are competing at this week's Sofia Open and Massey looks forward to see them in action: “I think we see here the future of tennis. These young players are very good already. So they are in Top 15, and they are really phenomenal. I think you can see, who will become the No1 player in the future. Not a long way, really”, Massey said. “We are talking about a national event. This is basically best for the tennis in Bulgaria. I think it is a phenomenal opportunity to come and watch tennis. Around the world, we have 63 tournaments. So this [having Sofia Open] is having one of the big chances to see top professional tennis. So it is a great opportunity for national cities like Sofia to have a world event. You got the very young generation, that is really good and leading in the rankings, and you got all that experienced generation. I think it is very interesting to see who will go all the way this week. It is going to be fascinating. I think as a spectator if you can see these professionals. You can see them playing phenomenal tennis, and that should inspire the generations, the younger generations that can go out and start playing the sports.”
The Erste Bank Open of Vienna Tournament Director Herwig Straka added: “This tournament is amazing, Bulgarians should be proud with it. I know the organizers, they are doing a great job. This Arena – “Arena Armeec” is fantastic, I am really impressed. I was here for the Kid’s day and I liked that there were so many kids. I liked the way the organizers found a way to involve children – with so many activities."
