ATP Miami: Zverev brothers beaten in doubles opener
Germany's Alexander Zverev and Mischa Zverev have exited the Miami Masters men's doubles event as they picked up a first-round loss to Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez and Horacio Zeballos 6-4 6-2.
Gonzalez and Zeballos saved four break points in the first game, before they got the first break of the match in the fourth game to take a 3-1 first-set lead.
The Zverev brothers recovered from a break down as they broke back in the seventh game but still lost the first set as they failed to serve out the 10th game.
Gonzalez and Zeballos then cruised past the second set as they broke the Zverevs in the second and eighth game to claim a straight-set win.
Gonzalez and Zeballos won 79 percent of their first serve points, converted 4-of-9 of their break point chances and saved 5-of-6 of the break point opportunities they faced in just over an hour of action.
Meanwhile, Russia's Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev have failed for the third time to clinch their maiden team win as they suffered a straight-set defeat to Wesley Koolhof and Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-1 6-4.
Koolhof, 29, and 20-year-old Tsitsipas broke the Russian duo in the second and sixth game to comfortably win the first set.
Koolhof and Tsitsipas blew an early second-set break as Khachanov and Medvedev broke back in the sixth game to make it all tied at 3-3 but then lost their serve in the following game.
Koolhof and Tsitsipas converted 4-of-5 of their break point chances and saved 5-of-6 of Khachanov and Medvedev's break point opportunities in just 55 minutes of action.
American Steve Johnson and Austria's Dominic Thiem fought hard but fell still short against doubles specialists Marcel Granollers and Nikola Mektic as they were edged out 7-6 (4) 7-5.
Spain's Granollers and Croatian Mektic failed to serve out for the opener in the 10th game but kept their focus as they converted their first set point in the tie-break to claim the first set.
Johnson and Thiem recovered from a break down in the second set but failed to serve out for a tie-break as No. 7 seeds Granollers and Mektic got the deciding break in the 12th game to seal the win.
Granollers and Mektic came up big when needed most as they converted 3-of-3 of their break point chances and saved 6-of-8 of Johnson and Thiem's break point opportunities in an hour and 25 minutes of action.
