Bianca Andreescu to represent Team Americas at Aurora Games in August

Times Union Center in Albany, NY, will host the first edition of Aurora Games between August 20-25, with the six-day event featuring competition in women’s tennis, gymnastics, figure skating, ice hockey and beach volleyball. Team Americas will fight against Team World and the unique tournament will feature the all-star athletes from more than 15 countries and it will also include musical performances, food tastings, sports clinics, autograph sessions and seminars in the Aurora Games Fan Zone at the Albany Capital Center.

Among the tennis stars, there are Monica Puig, Garbine Muguruza, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and the newly-crowned Indian Wells champion Bianca Andreescu who will show their skills in Albany just before the US Open. An 18-year-old Andreescu became the youngest Indian Wells champion since Serena Williams almost 20 years ago and the first player with a wild card to go all the way in the desert, delivering the first big title for those born in the 2000s and cracking the top-30.

"I am honored to have been chosen to represent Canada and the Americas in the Aurora Games," Andreescu said in a statement released by the Aurora Games. "It will be a fascinating event for me and for all of the players to compete in the Americas vs the World format along with athletes from different sports, and with Albany being so close to Canada, I hope some of the fans will come to cheer us on."

"We are tremendously pleased to welcome Bianca to the exceptional group of athletes slated to participate in the Aurora Games," executive producer Jerry Solomon said in a statement. "Her impressive performance at Indian Wells this past week and her rise in the competitive world of women's tennis is the perfect example of the type of talent and athleticism fans will witness in Albany this August."
