Breaking Jimmy Connors' record will be tough for Roger Federer -Jim Courier

The former world No. 1 Jim Courier would not be surprised at seeing Roger Federer not breaking Jimmy Connors's 109 titles record. The Swiss player reached the 100 unit last week in Dubai and he has a small schedule along the year. This season he added Madrid and the French Open to his calendar as he is going to make his comeback to clay for the first time since 2016. "I think it's gonna be difficult", admitted Courier. "He doesn't play that many tournaments, he plays only the ones with big fields so it's not easy. If you want to achieve that he can play a few 500s but why would you do that? He is only about the big titles, and nothing is gonna change at the end of the day if he is gonna get past Jimmy's record."

Paul Annacone, who worked with Federer from 2010 to 2013, instead feels confident: "Feeling well, playing a bit less, why not a couple more years."

Courier commented on Serena's break after Australia. "That's a worry for most of the players because they need momentum, we see a lot of players comeback and they play doubles as well. But what's important for Serena is that she feels good and healthy because when she is still healthy and focused, she has made quarters of Major, she made finals so she has a lot of momentum."
