Dominic Thiem shows his respect for Ivo Karlovic after Indian Wells clash

Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem showed his respect for Croatian Ivo Karlovic after their BNP Paribas Open clash. 

The seventh-seeded Austrian handed a 6-4 6-3 loss to the 40-year-old Croatian to progress to the Indian Wells Masters quarter-final. 

The world No. 8 avoided any drama as he didn't let the big-serving Croatian push him into tie-breaks. 

No break points were until the 10th game of the first set when Thiem converted his first break point -- which at the same time was his first set point -- to claim the opener. 

The 25-year-old then broke the Croatian in the fourth game to take a 3-1 second-set lead and then held on to his serve to seal the win. 

The Austrian didn't face a single break point in just 58 minutes of play. 

Meanwhile, 2018 French Open runner-up Thiem is happy with the way his collaboration with Massu is going. 

The two have been working together since February as the Austrian is bidding to win his first title since adding the 2004 Olympic Gold Medal champion to his team. 

Thiem's post-match plans included watching the Gael Monfils and Philipp Kohlschreiber match. 

Monfils continued his fine form as he beat Kohlschreiber in straight sets to set up a quarter-final clash against Thiem. 

The Austrian said he would be fine with playing against either Monfils or Kohlschreiber as he knows how to play against them.
