Roger Federer's words take Karen Khachanov by surprise

Karen Khachanov was left surprised, when in an on-court interview at the Indian Wells Masters, the presenter told him that Roger Federer said he speaks to him and Daniil Medvedev, the two most bright Russian promising players, on a daily basis. "Really?" replied Khachanov.

In a press conference at the Dubai Open following his opening round win over Philipp Kohlschreiber, Federer had said: "You can expect more from them. I'm happy that we have good Russian guys and players on the tour right now, up-and-coming."

Rafael Nadal spoke to Tennis Channel about the reasons why he met Roger Federer at the Swiss player's house in Indian Wells to speak about Chris Kermode's departure. The Spaniard said: "We need to see how the things improve, there have been a lot of good things in the last years in our sport. Some players achieved a lot and that creates an important crowd around the sport and a lot of talking about tennis, so now we need to do the right things, work hard to hold our sport at the highest possible level and I am here if they need me."

Former player-turned-pundit Chanda Rubin added: "Rafa and Roger, they have a lot going on and for different reasons and for them and for them to have gotten together and have thought it's important enough to talk things over in terms of what's going on, that says a lot."
