People are worried for tennis after Roger Federer, Nadal retirement -Schett

In an interview to TennisNet, the tennis TV presenter Barbara Schett commented on how tennis will look like once the top legends will retire from the professional sport. The German said: "There were years where prior to Grand Slams it was clear that Serena Williams would probably win the title. Many people are already thinking about what will happen after her retirement. These worries happen also on the men's side with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. But there will be a new generation who could not affect the older people because we know the oldest players and we saw them live."

"You cannot see everything in such a critical way", added Schett. "At the moment we have a very balanced and exciting field on the women's side. Ten players can win a Grand Slam and tennis is popular over the world so you should not get worried that much. There will always be more interesting stages than other ones: a Federer will not play forever. We are able to see Roger still playing at the top. The rivalry between Nadal and Federer is unique because you will not have one like that."

Schett also has a ten-year-old son who sometimes watches matches live: "He is a sports lover and he plays it. Could he become a tennis player? He plays tennis too less because every day he plays a different sport. We want to do different things. Many people make the mistake of focusing on a single sport and then kids suddenly get tired."

Both Nadal and Federer will compete in Madrid.
