Gasquet: You have to think about tennis day and night to have success
In an interview with GQ, Richard Gasquet commented on whether tennis was a sacrifice for him. The French player, who has been sidelined with an injury for months, said: "No sacrifices, no. My goal in life has always been to win matches, to play. This is where I show the best of myself, where I take the most pleasure. But it's a way of life, yes. You have to think about tennis day and night. You have no choice if you want to have success. You must never stop. If you take three or four days of vacation, you can pay for it afterward. This is where the top guys are even more professional than the rest."
Gasquet underwent groin surgery and he is yet to play a match this year. The former top-10 player hopes to be back in the clay-court season. "Some days were hard. But I deeply love this sport, the high-level matches, with the public. It's not so long until I will stop playing, in three or four years, I want to have more!"
Gasquet was also asked if he watches tennis on TV when he cannot play: "I don't watch the matches too much. After that, what changes for me is no trips, no hotels, no travel. Which is not bad for me because I'm not a big fan of hotels. I want to play again, as long as the body holds... Since the last 5-6 years, I really feel the love for the game in a strong way. I did not need to injure myself to feel it again. The flame, the desire to play, is always there. I want to heal myself as soon as possible but I also have the experience not to rush the recovery stages."
