Ian Hewitt to replace Philip Brook as All England Club Vice Chairman

Back in 2010, Philip Brook had become the Vice Chairman at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and he has decided to step down after a successful nine-year tenure, replaced by Ian Hewitt following the Club’s Annual General Meeting in December this year. Under Brook's guidance, the most prestigious tennis event in the world has experienced vast improvements, including the completion of the No. 1 Court with a retractable roof, more than double total revenue, the creation of the Wimbledon Foundation, extending the grass season after adding an extra week before Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Also, the Club has recently secured the acquisition of Wimbledon Park Golf Club which will more than treble the AELTC’s existing 40-acre site, making it more suitable for some significant projects in the future. Hewitt has been in high-level legal positions for more than 30 years, working with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and as Managing Partner of the New York office. An Oxford Blue in tennis, Hewitt joined the AELTC Committee in 2002 and is currently Chair of the Ticket Sub-Committee, the Museum Sub-Committee, and the Wimbledon Foundation.

Hewitt is also a former LTA Councillor and Board Member. 2019 edition of Wimbledon will kick off on July 1 and it brings the new rules, with a deciding tie break at 12-12 in the fifth set, avoiding marathon encounters like that semi-final clash between John Isner and Kevin Anderson from last year that lasted six hours and 36 minutes.

“Ian’s combination of business acumen and considerable experience serving on the AELTC Committee and as Chair of the Wimbledon Foundation ensures that he will provide the AELTC with strong leadership for the coming years. For now, we look ahead to continuing our planning for a successful Championships in 2019 and a seamless handover in December 2019,” said Brook.
