Neil Robertson: 'Ronnie O'Sullivan is Roger Federer of snooker'

The connection between tennis legend Roger Federer and snooker biggest star Ronnie O'Sullivan is evident after just a few minutes of watching them both doing what they do the best on the tennis court and snooker table. At the age of 37 and 43 respectively, Roger and Ronnie are still pushing boundaries, fully committed to their beloved sports and with the right example for the young upcoming players. For O'Sullivan, 2018-19 season has been nothing but spectacular so far, winning five titles and achieving the 1000th century, writing the record books and adding a few more pages on Sunday night when he defeated Neil Robertson in the final of the Tour Championship in Llandudno, Wales.

Overcoming an 8-5 deficit against Judd Trump in the semis and prevailing 10-9 on the final black, Ronnie entered the title match where he toppled the Aussie 13-11 in another tight encounter, securing the 36th ranking title to match Stephen Hendry's record. Also, O'Sullivan has become the world no. 1 for the first time since 2010, ending the four-year reign of Mark Selby who was beaten by Roberton 9-8 in the opening round of the inaugural event that saw elite eight players fighting for £150,000. This was the third straight final for Robertson and the second in a row he lost to O'Sullivan, calling the Englishman "Roger Federer of snooker" and praising his game and dedication.

"Three finals in a row is a fantastic effort but to lose the last two is very disappointing but I am playing the equivalent of the Roger Federer of the snooker table, and he is probably even better than that. Well, he is, actually. He is an unbelievable player, but at least he let me play a little more than last time! Going into the World Championships, at least I know now that should we meet I know I can give him a good game. We both could have played better but best out of 25 you are never going to get the highest quality over three sessions. But I thought it was a fantastic contest, both gave it absolutely everything and fought so hard. Every time we play there is a milestone of some sorts.”
