Radu Albot: I will try to impose my game on my childhood idol Roger Federer
World No. 46 Radu Albot says record 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and former world No. 1 Marat Safin were his idols growing up.
Albot, 29, is set to meet 37-year-old Federer in the Miami Masters third round.
The two are set to meet for the first time ever as they have no previous meetings.
Albot earned a spot in the Miami main draw by winning two qualifying matches.
He then won his Miami first round clash after Australian Matthew Ebden retired while 6-0 3-2 down.
Federer, seeded at No. 4 in the Miami main draw, had a first round bye at the tournament.
Albot is having a breakthrough season on the tour as he insists he won't back down when he meets Federer on the hard courts of Miami.
The 29-year-old, who is now enjoying his career-high ranking, won his maiden ATP title in Delray Beach last month when he beat Briton Daniel Evans in the final.
Albot is targeting to make the third round at the Miami event for the first time in his career.
The 29-year-old debuted at the Miami Masters in 2017 when he lost in the first round to Italian Andreas Seppi.
Albot made the second round at the Miami Masters last year before he lost to home-favorite Sam Querrey.
It remains to be seen can Albot pull off a major upset and beat three-time Miami champion Federer.
