Rafael Nadal opened new tennis centre in Mexico: it's a paradise - Insider

The new Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre opened on Monday in Costa Mujeres, Cancun (Mexico) and the Spanish player was there holding kids clinics. The director of the tennis programmes at the Rafa Nadal Academy, Tomas Prieto, said: 'Cancun is a paradise and the resort is enormous. Restaurant, beach, many activities... We have eight clay courts, three of them are indoors, a football court, a paddle court, a museum like the Manacor one. It features Rafa's Grand Slam and some titles trophies, some sportsmen' apparel like Cristiano Ronaldo, Pau Gasol...'

There are eight tennis clay-courts, which is not a surprise considering that Nadal is an 11-time tournament winner: 'It had to be clay. In Cancun, they are used to have clay courts. We are very happy to enjoy the clay. We have Canadian, American people. They are grateful.'

On how Nadal is as a human being, Prieto added: 'I can tell you about the experience I had at the academy. He is a pretty close person, he comes, he trains there, goes in the bar, restaurants, he knows the majority of kids' names.'

On Nadal, the Marca journalist said: 'He is doing something unbelievable that goes beyond the sport, in order to be busy once he ends his tennis career. It will be an unbelievable place, where you can learn about tennis but also sports in general.'

Nadal will now take a rest having withdrawn from the Miami Open due to a knee injury. He will be back competing at the Monte Carlo Masters.
