Roger Federer: 'Beating idol Sampras at Wimbledon was a dream come true'

In an interview, Roger Federer recalled his 2001 Wimbledon fourth-round win over Pete Sampras. The Swiss player picked it as his most special moment in career. "That was obviously a bit of dream come true", admitted the Basel native. "It was incredible I was able to win especially on the Center Court. He used to be one of my idols with Edberg and Becker so to be able to play against him and to beat him was an incredible moment, especially at Wimbledon, my favourite tournament. It's always nice to be congratulated, they say you will be very good but you have to show you are worthy, you still have to get the results. It's always been my dream to become a professional tennis player so I never had a problem with missing out on going out with friends. Because of tennis, I am more than prepared to put up with that and make a few sacrifices."

Federer also credited his parents for the help they have given him: "I was very lucky with my parents and my sister. My parents have always pushed me but not too much, which always inspired me to do the best I could, they keep supporting me. I have to really be grateful for all what they have done."
