Roger Federer: 'Miami Open Stadium reminds me of US Open'
Roger Federer backed the Miami Open being moved to a new venue, the Hard Rock Stadium, in order to progress and compete with the other top events. Speaking to Tennis Channel, Federer recalled the time when he competed at Key Biscayne, the previous venue: "Back to '98 in the juniors and now being here feels different. It feels bittersweet, and also before I played at Crandon Park I know that the greats of our game walked there before and played best of five set tennis from the first round on, so it's been an iconic venue for a long, long time so moving here has its benefits, I am sure in many years time we will look back and go like, What a great change that was, but for now I am mixed about it but very excited for this new arena here at Hard Rock Stadium, the home of Miami Dolphins, and for us, the tennis tour, to come within the stadium for the first time, it's cool, new and I think it's gonna be great."
"I think it's pretty good, it's just humid here instead of the dry heat in the desert, and because of the dry heat the ball maybe bounces and jumps and travels through the air just slightly faster but other than that, it's the same ball, the same court speed and here you just have less wind, there is not much wind and less sun, the court is in the shine basically already at 1:00 o'clock which is crazy. It reminds me a little bit of the US Open right now nowadays with the new dome on top."
