Warning to Rafael Nadal! Andy Murray defeats Wozniacki in practice before Madrid Open
Andy Murray boosted his confidence level ahead of the Madrid Virtual Open, where he shares the same group with Rafael Nadal, after he won a friendly match against Caroline Wozniacki, another player who joined the innovative tournament.
Murray won the practice without dropping his serve, so we can say that he is good friends with the PS4 controller. Unfortunately for Benoit Paire, Andy’s first opponent in the virtual tournament organized by Mutua Madrid, this is bad news.
However, Caroline Wozniacki wasn’t too bad either as she managed to end the match with a high first serve in percentage – 88%. That rarely happens in a real-life encounter. Nevertheless, Murray had 0 unforced errors and has concretized 2 out of his 3 breakpoint chances. “She tried her best and played some good stuff but she wasn’t enough at the highest level,'' said Murray on Instagram after the match.
Wozniacki will have 2 matches on Monday, firstly meeting Kristina Mladenovic and, later, Bianca Andreescu, so this practice could have done only good for her gaming skills. Besides Mladenovic and Andreescu, the Danish former world number one will have to lock horns with Madison Keys in the days to come.
Andy Murray shares the same group with Rafael Nadal, Benoit Paire and Denis Shapovalov.
“There is a very competitive group in the men's draw... I can't wait to see who is going to progress from Group 1 and I'm looking forward to the tournament starting on Monday,” said Gerard Tsobanian, CEO and president of the Mutua Madrid Open.
