Adrian Mannarino's Budapest debut delayed as injury forces him to withdraw
French tennis player Adrian Mannarino won't be making his Budapest debut next week as he has withdrawn from the tournament due to an ankle injury.
The 30-year-old was drawn to meet Moldova's Radu Albot in the first round before he pulled out from the tournament on Sunday.
Mannarino, ranked at No. 58 in the world, opened his 2019 clay-court campaign at the Monte Carlo Masters.
The Frenchman didn't impress at the Monte Carlo event, having suffered a first-round straight-set defeat against rising British star Cameron Norrie.
It remains to be seen will an ankle issue force former world No. 22 Mannarino to also withdraw from any of the upcoming clay events.
Meanwhile, Mannarino will be replaced in the Budapest main draw by Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky, who won the lucky loser spot.
The Ukrainian tried to clinch a main draw spot through the qualifying event but failed to do so.
Stakhovsky, 33, handed a straight-set defeat to German Daniel Brands in his qualifying opener before he lost to rising Serbian star Miomir Kecmanovic in the final round.
The 33-year-old was up by a break early on in the first set but eventually suffered a straight-set defeat against Indian Wells quarter-finalist Kecmanovic 6-4 6-4.
Yet, former world No. 31 Stakhovsky will be making his second main draw appearance in Budapest.
Stakhovsky, ranked at No. 115 in the world, debuted at the Budapest event in 2017 after entering the main draw as a lucky loser.
The Ukrainian then managed to win his main draw opener before losing to Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the round-of-16.
