Alexander Zverev and Kerber's success can inspire Germany - Rittner
In an interview to TennisNet, the head of female German tennis Barbara Rittner commented on how important Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev's successes are for the country in terms of inspiration. Rittner said: "It's always important to be able to identify yourself with figures. Players coming from your country who do great things. You speak about tennis, even more, more people watch the best events. And that moves to the clubs too."
She also warned that younger girls need time to improve: "Hopefully Angie Kerber, Julie Goerges and others keep playing for some years so that these talents can use the time they need. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 seasons there were some very promising players here. Now, as a Federation, we have to do our best for the promotion, so that we can modify some mistakes. We cannot expect miracles straight forward."
On the most promising younger players, Rittner concluded: "We will make those players being even more connected to the Federation. They are supported in their everyday life also by our national coaches. They will be together even more often in the groups and, thanks to a co-operation with a special school, they will be able to create a connection with their education to tennis. After leaving the Fed Cup captaincy, now I have more time for our best talents. I try to lead these girls to the professional journey as soon as possible."
