Alexander Zverev: 'The atmosphere in Marrakech first round was great'

Alexander Zverev opened his run in Marrakech on a good note. The German defeated Denis Istomin in straight sets, 6-4 6-4, to reach the second round. In a post game interview, the 21-year-old said: “This was my first clay match of the season. I’m very happy that I won it. I only arrived here last night, but I had been practising well in Monaco. The atmosphere was great, the fans gave me a lot of support. This is my first time in Morocco, and the people are amazing. The tournament is very well-organised, and it’s a pleasure to be here", said Zverev, who got a last minute wild card to play the Grand Prix Hassan II.

Jiri Vesely defeated Fabio Fognini 7-6 6-4. The Czech said: “As expected it was a tough match. Fabio is unpredictable and he can play Top 5 level. I got a bit nervous when he started playing unbelievably well at 5-1 in the second set. I’m coming back from a few injuries, so I still need to build my confidence [and] this is obviously a very important win.”

Asked what was the key decision in his career, Zverev replied: "I don't think there is one. I think there is always multiple. I think you always have to make the right choice to be at the top. You can never make bad decisions. You can never make -- you know, decisions that sometimes you want to, but you have to be professional and you have to, you know, first of all enjoy it, but at the same time focus on your goal, focus on your dream and let everything else be secondary."
