Astra Sharma describes unreal week in Bogota

The pair defeated Americans Hayley Carter and Ena Shibahara in the final. Astra Sharma has described reaching her first WTA title as an ‘unreal experience’, despite falling agonisingly short against Amanda Anisimova in Bogota.

Sharma was a set and a break up and at one point just two games away from victory, when Anisimova clinched it out of her grasp to triumph 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

“It was an incredible atmosphere,” Sharma said. “It was my first time playing in a final like this and just such a memorable experience.

Secondly, I’d like to congratulate Amanda, she really deserved to win. "Good playing and good luck for the rest of the season.

I’d like to thank everybody back home – my coaches back home, my family and my friends, who have been sending me all these messages of love and support." "It has been an unreal experience.

Thank you to everyone. I’m so grateful to be here and I hope to see you guys again next year.”

Sharma also posted about her incredible week on Instagram.

"Incredible finish to an amazing week! "Didn’t get the W today but so grateful to have the opportunity 😎 thank you to everyone who has been following the journey this week and been so supportive ❤️ muchas gracias Bogota, it has been a pleasure!".

Sharma still left Bogota a champion though, winning the doubles title with compatriot Zoe Hives.
