ATP Monte Carlo - Friday Schedule: Rafael Nadal, Djokovic seek semis
The match between Lorenzo Sonego and Dusan Lajovic will open the Monte Carlo Masters Friday schedule. Both of them seek their first Masters 1000 semifinal. The Serb already played a quarter-final on this tournament category in last year's Madrid losing to Kevin Anderson. Sonego started this event from the qualies and he has won all the five matches played. With this result Sonego will crack the top 70 rankings, he is No. 96 this week. After that Novak Djokovic will face Daniil Medvedev for the fourth time in career. The Serb leads head to head meetings 3-0 having won in 2017 Davis Cup, 2017 Eastbourne and this year's Australian Open. In both Davis Cup and Melbourne events, Medvedev won a set over Djokovic.
In the Australian Open, the world No. 1 only dropped off a set to Medvedev in the fourth round and Denis Shapovalov in the third. Rafael Nadal will face Guido Pella for the third time, the Spaniard easily won their two previous matches in 2017 Indian Wells and 2018 French Open. Pella is playing his first Masters 1000 quarter-final in career. After his win over the world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, Fabio Fognini will seek his second Monte Carlo semifinal after the one lost in 2013 to Djokovic against Borna Coric. The Italian leads head to head 1-0 having won in 2014 Umag when the Croat was just a teenager. Coric already played two Masters 1000 semifinals, both of them last year in Shanghai, defeating Roger Federer, and Indian Wells losing to Federer after being a set and a break up.
