ATP Rankings: Djokovic moves away from Nadal. Thiem gets closer to Federer

The week behind us brought two ATP tournaments in Barcelona and Budapest and some changes in the top-10 seven days before the next big clash of the best players in the world in Madrid. After Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Novak Djokovic has managed to increase the gap over Rafael Nadal at the top, spending the 249th week on the ATP throne, massive 3395 points ahead of the Spaniard who has lost almost 1000 points after failing to defend the titles at mentioned tournaments. Despite two disappointing losses to Fabio Fognini and Dominic Thiem, Rafa is still 2000 points clear of the struggling German Alexander Zverev who has gathered just 165 points in the last five ATP tournaments, unable to find the form on clay and hoping for a better run this week in Munich where he is the defending champion.

Roger Federer is less than 200 points behind Zverev, skipping this week before the long-awaited return to clay in Madrid in seven days. Roger is still safe in the 4th place, 500 points ahead of Barcelona champion Dominic Thiem who is back on the winning way after just nine triumphs before the previous week. Kevin Anderson is still 6th but that could change soon as he announced the skipping of the entire clay swing, struggling with an elbow injury and hoping to be at 100% for grass in June. Kei Nishikori lost in the semi-final in Barcelona and stayed 7th, ahead of Juan Martin del Potro and John Isner who both passed Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek couldn't defend the points from the last year when he was the finalist in Barcelona and will try to bounce back in Estoril and fix the damage with a deep run.

Nikoloz Basilashvili and Gael Monfils have moved ahead of Marco Cecchinato who withdrew from Budapest where he won the title a year ago. Laslo Djere has gained four places to crack the top-30 together with an 18-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime. Budapest champion Matteo Berrettini is in the top-40 for the first time, moving ahead of Pablo Carreno Busta who is on the worst ranking spot since September 2016 after struggling with an injury since February. Grigor Dimitrov could drop out from the top-50 this week for the first time since 2012, unlike Filip Krajinovic and Roberto Carballes Baena who are the movers of the week together with Berrettini.
