Can Félix Auger-Aliassime become a better player than Alexander Zverev?

Can Félix Auger-Aliassime become a better player than Alexander Zverev, in the next years? The answer could be: yes, maybe he can. Or at least he will have the chance to do it. This is the general feeling I have about the future of the young Canadian Next Gen, who could represent the future of the North American men's tennis.

Already a winner at the Junior US Open, Auger-Aliassime has surprised everyone during the past two years in professional tennis, especially insiders and media. His physical structure combined with solid and contemporary tennis make him a very good player, especially on fast surfaces. His mental strength is still immature but it has already shown interesting potential.

It is no coincidence that at the age of 18, he has already played his first final in an ATP tournament. The Canadian has the credentials to emulate and improve upon the results and the performances of Zverev, despite the German is still considered the most accredited young tennis player to become the future world no. 1

Despite his young age and his important physical, technical and mental skills, he will have to take giant steps and improve under the shadow of the strongest tennis players of the Tour. It will not be an easy goal: expectations, pressure, opponents hide behind the corner, especially when a young prospect with great potential appears on the tennis horizon.

Auger-Aliassime started the season in Pune, where he was eliminated in the first round by Ivo Karlovic. He lost in the second round of qualifying at the Australian Open, and he lost in the second round in the Challenger Open de Rennes against Aslan Karatsev.

He even lost in the first round of the Argentina Open against Christian Garin, but he ruled the final at the Rio Open presented by Claro. On that occasion, he was defeated by Laslo Djere. The Serbian also defeated the young Canadian in Sao Paulo. He then reached the third round at Indian Wells and the semi-finals at the Miami Open.

After Miami, his growth seems to be exponential and better, tournament after tournament. If he can make the necessary improvements and manage pressure and expectations, he will certainly become a great champion.
