Coinciding with Federer and Nadal was amazing, says Nalbandian
In an interview, the former Argentinean player David Nalbandian commented on how it felt to compete in the same era as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. "I did not have the bad luck to coincide with Federer and Nadal. It was amazing", said Nalbandian. "I defeated them. It's better to be the No. 3 behind them and not the No. 1 of lucky people."
"Now you speak less about tennis because we were not able to give value to the sponsors and Federation. We did not take advantage of it."
"I do not miss tennis because my arm is destroyed. I am going through a different stage involving car and family", said Nalbandian, who is the father of two children. "I liked playing in Argentina, and despite the clay-court South American swing was not my best surface, I liked Davis Cup and Buenos Aires. It was extra pressure, but I loved it."
Asked about his best matches, Nalbandian concluded: "The final with Rafa Nadal in 2007 Madrid; Vinciguerra on one leg in Davis Cup, but the match was very bad, a mixture of emotions. I think the best one was played on indoor against Dominic Hrbaty in Slovakia. Also Lleyton Hewitt in Sydney in Davis Cup. Luckily you had a lot."
In an interview to Tennis Circus, the tennis commentator Alessandro Stoppani commented on the dominance set by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Stoppani said: "The Big Four Legacy is a really heavy one to pick. It's overall champions who marked not just an era but a real tennis history. Unique champions who will not be replaced. Now in tennis a lot of tasks are needed to have success, we know how the mental aspect is as well as the personality. If technique and shots are not supported by the mental strength, they do not matter that much. You have to be mature. There are rising stars like Tsitsipas, Zverev, Auger Aliassime, De Minaur, Khachanov, Coric, Shapovalov. Tsitsipas has great shots, physical and mental strength and I think he will have a world-class career. Zverev is not playing great this year, he was not doing well in Indian Wells and Miami. I expected Ivan Lendl to have another impact on the German, as he did not have a breakthrough in Grand Slams. Sascha is still young and time is on his side, but not something is not working. I like De Minaur who is similar to Lleyton Hewitt, while for Denis Shapovalov it will take some time."
