Damir Dzumhur's Marrakech debut delayed as he pulls out of tournament
Bosnian tennis star Damir Dzumhur won't be opening his 2019 clay-court campaign in the opening week of the clay season.
The 26-year-old's Marrakech debut has been delayed as he has withdrawn from the tournament.
Dzumhur, ranked at No. 53 in the world, last played at the Miami Masters.
The Bosnian's Miami campaign came to an end on an unfortunate way as he was forced to pull out from his second round match.
The world No. 53 came from a set down to beat American Chris Eubanks in the Miami first round 1-6 6-4 7-6 (5) and set up a clash against Italian Marco Cecchinato.
Unfortunately, Dzumhur and Cecchinato never clashed as the Bosnian was forced to pull out from the match due to a back injury he sustained during his first round match.
It remains to be seen will former world No. 23 Damir Dzumhur recover in time for the Monte Carlo Masters, which starts on April 14.
Meanwhile, a place in the Marrakech main draw has opened for Spanish clay-court specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas following the withdrawal of Dzumhur.
The Spaniard, who debuted at the Marrakech event in 2016, is now set to make his fourth consecutive appearance at the tournament.
Ramos-Vinolas' best campaign in Marrakech came two years ago, when he made the quarter-final before losing to eventual champion Borna Coric.
In the remaining two Marrakech campaigns, the Spaniard lost in the first round and round-of-16 respectively.
