David Ferrer: 'Federer, Nadal, Djokovic are legends. I am not'

David Ferrer believes he is not a real legend of the game. The Spaniard won one Masters 1000, reached the 2013 French Open final, won multiple Davis Cups and he was world No. 3, but in an interview to Bruno Balleste, he said: "Legends like Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic won several Grand Slams, not just one. But to be a legend, you cannot win just one Grand Slam. That does not mean I was not a great player because I was and I consider myself a great talented player."

On how it will feel to play in Barcelona for the last time, Ferrer added: "It's one of my favourite tournaments where I came as a kid with my parents and not having won there is something that makes me sad but I will fully enjoy it and appreciate all that I achieved."

Ferrer also recalled the 2012 Paris Masters title: "It was my maiden Masters 1000, 2012 was my best year as a tennis player, I felt very well and all that lacked on my list was a Master 1000."

On how his future looks like once his career ends next month, Ferrer concluded: "Over all these 14 years I played tennis and I was able to learn a lot of things about it but you have other things who I did not live yet and now I can. I have time to learn a lot of things of life, playing another sport, being a good father, and trying to stay involved in tennis."
