I would work with Nick Kyrgios, says John McEnroe
John McEnroe coached Milos Raonic in 2016 making him reach a Wimbledon final. Could the American be back on tour again? In an interview with Le Figaro, he replied: "I would be interested to training, but not the full time it's complicated to combine my role as a consultant and my Academy. But players trust me enough to know that I can make a difference between the TV and the personal engangement in tennis. So it would be nice to help a guy of the younger generations, I mean the ones we spoke about before. The time may be right."
Would he work with Nick Kyrgios? "Yes, why not? He is a good guy, and being talented is not enough. You need other abilities. Nick can beat anybody and could be on the top ten over six months, but if you want to be the best you have to be consistent. Unfortunately, that's not happening. I do not know why I am not a psychologist. In the Laver Cup, when I coached him, he showed he can be a great teammate. It seems he'd rather play with others than with himself..."
Could Gael Monfils win a Grand Slam? "We are speaking of a player who is similar to Nick. They are both able to win a Major. Gael is an amazing athlete, but he struggles with being consistent. However, to win one, you have to show an unbelievable commitment and find a strength that you do not even realize. When I played, I was not perfect, but I never gave up and that's the only way to be awarded. Nadal, Federer, Djokovic have this in them."
